The Will To Evolve:

Choosing To Use Your Story To Impact the World.

As I frequently say in my talks and presentations, I truly believe that everyone goes through adversity one way or another. But how you respond to life’s adversities is what makes the difference! Two people could face the same challenge, and respond in completely opposite ways! Why is that? This, to me, is fascinating!

How can two people face the same adversity, let’s say, they both get laid off from their jobs. And yet, one goes out and pursues other venues to keep him or her engaged in his or her community; and eventually, connects with potential employers looking for candidates to hire. And Bam! He or she gets hired!

The other person however, stays home, gets depressed, complains, and blames everyone around. Why is this difference in our responses to life’s moments?

You know, I’m proud to be a student of life, and I don’t claim to have all the answers. And if you meet anyone claiming they do, run for your life! Because truly, no one does. We are all on a journey of self-discovery, in this adventure we call life! I learn from experiences; and then share with others what I’ve learned on my own life journey.

Maybe you’re facing some adversity, and you don’t know how to evolve through it. Hey, as they say, when life gives you lemons, what do you do? You make lemonade! But, I get it! I’ve been there. It’s not always easy for many of us to know how to make the darn lemonade!

Know that you’re not alone. We’re not alone! That’s why I do what I do. Sharing my story to inspire you to embark on a journey to evolving through adversity; and go to the school of life together! Are you a willing participant in becoming the master of your own destiny? I hope you said yes. So, come on out, and let’s evolve together!

My new Evolving Through Adversity Talk Series is a conversation starter, so we can sit down, exchange, and empower one another to grow, and be the best versions of ourselves.

I’m often asked: “Seconde, how did you get started in this line of work?”. And my answer is the same. I got started by using my story as a class, teaching what I have learned. As Maya Angelou used to say: “When you get, give. And when you learn, teach.”

So, in these Evolving Through Adversity Talk Series, I want us to explore the power of our stories. Do you know you have the power to change the world? Yes, you! You’ve got the power to change the world one story at a time!

In a recent radio interview, I was asked a question, and since, I’ve been thinking about it. The question was about how as a diversity advocate, I bring my message to those who might not necessarily be in tune with the perspectives I share. My message being that, We Are Not All that Different. In other words, we are more alike than we are different. This topic is what I shared in a TED Talk I gave in November 2016. It has since resonated with many people of all backgrounds who have watched it.

And, as I answered the question, I surprised even myself! I had not received the questions ahead of time; so, whatever I answered in that interview, came from my heart (including how I pronounced the word isolated.)😊

Here is the base of what I share in my message:

We have all been given free will to use our lives in any direction we choose. So, I chose to use my life as a class to inspire and uplift my fellow humans. The core of my message is based upon the fact that regardless of our race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and all the other social identities, at the very core of our being, we are more alike than we are different. Once we put this basic truth in our deep subconscious mind, the rest is just dressing up your picture in the way you want to appear. You can add all the filters you want, but at the core of who you are, it won’t change a thing!

However, at the same time, we cannot ignore that we are molded by the environment in which we grow up. And that’s where your story comes in. Everybody has a story, and only you can tell your own!

Therefore, the difference is in how you choose to use your story. You can use it to hurt others, or you can use it to bless others! The choice is really yours. We all have free will in what impact we want to make, and the type of legacy we want to leave behind.

So, my question to you is: How Are You Choosing to Use Your Story?
